The tribes of Israel were led by chiefs, who were surrounded by elders. All of these men were under the leadership of Moses. This would make up the leadership for Israel. Although the Israelite tribes were not founded on these men, in reality the foundation that made up society was family. However, the nuclear family could be broken down even more into marriage. Marriage between one man and one woman. This is where the foundation of society for the Israelites would be built up from!

The other Tribes within Israel were numbered for the day of battle. However, the Levites were left out. They were not allowed to go up for battle with their brothers. Instead they were given an altogether different responsibility. Hosting the presence of God!

Up till this point in the journey from Egypt, Moses had been leading the Israelites through the Lord’s direction. However, not everyone was excited about it. Yes, challenges came from others in the tribes, but one wouldn’t think it to come from within the family. For Moses though, it did.

The spies would return from their journey of exploring the Promised Land, with a great report of the land and its produce… However, they wouldn’t remember the promises that God gave them. Instead the spies would cause the people to turn against Moses and ultimately God. Why? Because of fear. Fear of the people that lived in the land!

The fear that the Israelites had was real. And it was logical! Yet, despite the fear they should have looked to God to be the one that would bring them through their trails. However, they turned their backs to God and trusted in themselves and their own abilities when it came to conquering the Land of Canaan

The Israelites had finally gotten themselves to the border of the Promised Land, they even sent spies into the land to check the best routes. However, they were not allowed to enter the land, instead they were sent right back in the direction from which they came. This would begin the wandering in the Wilderness for a total of 40 years.

When the wandering was finally over, and the mourning of Aaron was completed, the Israelites were once again ready to enter the Promised Land. But they ran into some issues. First, the King of Arad comes and attacks the Israelites, capturing some of them in a raid. And then on top of that, the Israelite's plan of entry into the Promised Land had changed, adding weeks if not months to the travel time!
